We can finally use the bathroom!

 

My brother finished putting the toilet in as well as all of the faucets, etc. and the water was turned back on in the bathroom this week. All that is left to do is touch up painting around two outlets and the window, tiling the trim, putting up the toilet paper holder and towels rack and hook, hanging the mirror, and finishing the closet shelves, and finally the doors!

Grout

The bathroom is really coming along! Pretty soon we will have the toilet in, then we won’t have to use buckets… haha!

This past Sunday, Craig, Alex, George, and our friend Michael Notter layed the floor tile.

My dad came over and assessed the electric- the bathroom lights will be getting put in soon, and hopefully my brother can put in the toilet soon. Then the vanity, and then the countertop once it comes in, followed by the fixtures. It is all coming together, and it is so exciting!

Productive Day!

Craig didn’t work today because the jobsite was too muddy, so he started tiling the bathroom. He finished setting tile for the shower walls today and it looks great!! Here are some pics:

Finished product! (Well, minus the grout and cleaning) Great job Craig :)

I spent all afternoon doing touch up painting in the living room. A few months back, Craig put caulking around the trim of the windows and front door and later decided to take it off, which ripped all of the fresh paint off. We just haven’t had the time to go in and fix it until today. I also finished the touch ups on the trim pieces and straightened the edges where the walls meet the ceiling. All we need in the living room is a new light fixture/ceiling fan, a few outlet and light switch covers, and a little bit of cleaning! Oh, and furniture..

Bathroom

It has been two months since our last blog, wow… Anyways, we haven’t got too much accomplished due to good weather (no rain days), Craig shearing every Saturday and Sunday, and me finishing up my internship (yay!). Now that I am finished with school for the summer, I will be up at the house as much as I can doing all of the touch up work we have been waiting to do.

We are pretty close to finishing the bathroom. All that is left to do is put the tile down on the floor and in the shower, then put in the toilet, vanity, lighting, etc…

Here is the bathroom after drywall.

First coat of paint. We originally bought a green color for the bathroom, but we ended up painting it the color that we bought for the middle room. So now the middle room is going to be green.

Just to give everyone a preview, this is what we have to look forward to when we start on the kitchen!!! AHHHH!!!

We have stairs!

Craig was off one day this past week and put the steps and risers in. They look really good, I can’t wait to see what they’ll look like with a banister. The color of the risers is the same color we are painting the middle room. The steps are stained the same color as the floors.

Here are a few pictures of the trim Craig has made. The trim for all of the windows and the front door were made to match the interior door frames that are built in to the walls. Everything still needs touch up paint and the closet doors are ready to be hung.

Craig also put the exhaust fan in the bathroom.

Congratulations to cousin Jason and his new wife Amy! They were married on February 13th in Punta Cana and we celebrated at their reception last night at the V. Craig was honored to give a speech and had a funny story to tell. Everyone had a great time- and I got to be the wedding photographer! I had a blast!!

Work is slow

Not getting a whole lot done since Craig has been working more due to the good weather (NOT a bad thing) and last weekend shearing started, so the weekend work is going to slow up as well. Here are a few pictures of what has been going on lately.

Josh came over last week and finished the plumbing and also put the new bathtub in.

The bathroom closet re-framed after being torn out with the rest of the room. I think its going to be really big!

Dad came up this week and ran all the wiring for the bathroom. Next step- drywall! I think…?

Now on to outside. TONS of flowers are popping up all over our yard! I’m so excited to see what we all have. So far from what I can see, we have daffodils, tulips, hen and chicks, maybe some lambs ear, one or two rose bushes, mums, and some other things that I cannot identify. I decided that this year I will just kind of “experiment” and see what comes up, and where it comes up, and then next year I will focus on making the yard pretty. We have two small grow boxes for gardening, which I would like to make bigger. However, this summer we will have to see where our sunny spots and shady spots are because there is a big ol pecan tree in the back yard.

Craig ripped the porch of the small shed. I kinda liked it… but I trust that everything will eventually start to look nice once all of the debris is out of the yard and we can start cleaning things up!

Here are the grow boxes. Tiny, yes. Like I said, it will only be for this year.

What a mess…

Can anyone tell me what these purple flowers are?

Can anyone tell me what these are? They are coming up all along the north side of the house.

Well as you can see we also have a lot of work to do outside- most of the flowers coming up are not in beds. I have an extreme Type A personality and need structure!!! So if anyone could give me any gardening advice I would appreciate it. We do gardening as part of my internship, but it is mostly vegetables. Speaking of the internship, only 9 weeks left!!! SINGLE DIGITS! Can’t wait for this phase of my life to be over!

First Demolition!

Today Craig and Josh started the demolition of the bathroom. My brother will be helping with all of the plumbing jobs. I tried to get a picture of the inside of the bathroom before my camera died, but caught Josh cleaning up instead. But you can still see what the bathroom looks like now.

Here is what the boys got out of the bathroom, which is pretty much everything!

I don’t have the most recent pictures of the floors, but this is pretty much what they look like after being sanded, stained, and polyed. We really like the way they turned out!

George has been doing the mudding and taping in the middle room around the stairs.

The garage looks more like a workshop for the time being! Craig has been working on making our trim for the windows, doors, and baseboards, and I have been painting them! Hopefully we will be able to put all the trim up in the three rooms that are ready by the weekend, (hopefully). . . . .
