About Me

My photo
We got married October 23, 2010 and our sweet baby boy was born July 2, 2012. We have been remodeling our "new" home since January 2010 and I have documented the entire process, and will continue to do so.

Laundry Room

Last night Craig finished the new joints in the brick in the laundry room, and we ended up priming and finishing the first coat of paint. Not sure if I like it yet, I was wanting something a little darker, but this will have to do for now. It might grow on me once the trim, floor, and decorating are all finished.

Here is the before picture of the laundry room:021 (3)

Here is what it looked like after tearing all of the paneling out, with  drywall up, and in the process of making the brick on the back wall pretty (there were two coats of interior paint and one coat of exterior paint from way back in the day):

Here is what the brick looks like now after Craig finished the grinding and putting in new mortar! Looks awesome! :

Now this is what the room looks like after the first coat of paint, like I said, I don’t know if I like it yet but I’m going with it. Only thing that will be different in the “finished product” is a shelving unit over the boarded up window on the back wall, white trim throughout, grey epoxy paint on the floor, new washer and dryer hooked up (hookup is on the right of the photo below), and new light fixtures. I eventually want to paint the back door (and the front door..) but maybe I will call the Gregson’s for that, I am about sick of painting!

Well, that is all for now. Tonight we’re painting the final coat of “Boston Fern” green in the middle room. Apparently two coats wasn’t enough, and I also need to paint around the new archway that leads into the kitchen. Our weekend project: KITCHEN FLOOR TILE!!! Also on my weekend to do list, a TON of wedding projects. We are only 3.5 weeks out! Mom and I met with our decorator yesterday and changed things once again, now I have an even bigger to-do list of projects before the wedding! So much to do yet, but it is hard to believe in this short time that it is going to be over :(.

Craigslist Find

We bought a kitchen table tonight! I found it on Craigslist Friday afternoon at a VERY good price and knew we had to get it. It came with one leaf and 6 chairs. I have been looking on Craigslist for a while for a kitchen table, and for the size of this table and the number of chairs, I haven’t seen any that come close to being as cheap as this one- $160! I thought it was a good deal!

Forgot to mention..

Last night we bought a “brand new” couch, washer, and dryer! All items were in a spec home for ~2-3 years, but never have been used. We got a great deal and couldn’t pass it up!

One month ‘til show time!!!

Yep its only ONE MONTH from today until our wedding, and that means this house better be DONE, or close to done. I’m not expecting every little detail to be done, but I want all of the big things done! I can only hope….

It has been a while since I’ve posted. Drywall was put up, mudded and taped and sanded X 3, walls primed, and the first coat of color when on the kitchen walls tonight!

Before all the drywall was nailed up, I wrapped up an issue of the North County News from the week that our engagement picture was in it, added a little note from “The Hick’s” and put it inside the wall. Hopefully the house is still standing for a very long time, but once it does get tore down or if the kitchen walls get changed again, someone will find a little piece of history!

(Yes I know, not the best picture of myself, but thats not the point!)

Now after the first coats of paint. We are keeping all of the cabinets, trim work, and chair rail that were in the kitchen when we bought the house, so that is why we have two colors (and we only painted where we needed to so that is why there are bare spots!

We are keeping some brick exposed in the laundry room, yay!!! Craig has to do a little bit of grinding and fill in some joints and it should look a lot better. Now we have to decide on a color for that room! I’m think a light blue/teal/silverish color. But we have time to decide!

Hopefully in the next post you will see: tile floor in the kitchen, cabinets re-hung, new light fixtures in the kitchen and laundry room, and paint in the laundry room!

Wiring done!

First things first- one of my best friends Kortney had her first child last week! His name is Carson and he is adorable. I can’t wait to watch the little guy grow up!!!  Congratulations to Kortney and her husband Craig!!!

Now onto the house, this is the gross ceiling in the kitchen and that hole is where the big ugly vent cover goes. We are drywalling over the current ceiling, it will will look much nicer.040

We are looking at doing plastic “pressed tin” as a backsplash. I really don’t know what it is called, but Ryan and Nicolette put it in their kitchen when they remodeled their new home last year and I really like it. We’ll see… it is kinda $$$! Here are the options:

I think my dad is done with the wiring in the kitchen and laundry/mud room for the most part. He also did the wiring for an outlet outside for the patio, a light outside the back door, and also for a flood light to mount on the top of the house overlooking the back yard. There was absolutely NO lighting in the backyard or at the back door, so I’m glad he did it, I know we are in town and we have neighbors but walking from the garage to the house in pitch black is scary to me!

Here is a picture of some of the new wiring. We are going to insulate this wall to help with the winters. Notice the laundry room through the door, the paneling is still on. We thought about just painting over it (as did the people before us) but we decided to drywall the room considering we were already doing the kitchen. Why not?

HOPEFULLY by Sunday I will be able to post pictures of the kitchen, pantry, and laundry room with all of the drywall up! The wedding is only 6 weeks from this Saturday, so we gotta get moving! Have a good weekend everyone!
