About Me

My photo
We got married October 23, 2010 and our sweet baby boy was born July 2, 2012. We have been remodeling our "new" home since January 2010 and I have documented the entire process, and will continue to do so.

I LOVE OUR NEW QUILT!!!

I am literally obsessed with our new bedding for our first bedroom! Dad brought my bed up from my bedroom at my parents’ house last night, and tonight we put all of our new bedding on. Makes it feel more like a bedroom!

032 033 My bedroom at my parents’ house looks pretty similar to our new room, haha (see picture below). I love the paint color in my old bedroom and I had to have it in our new bedroom. Oh and I can’t wait to decorate for Christmas in our new room too!012

My closet is pretty big for not being a walk-in. Eight foot nine! We bought a closet organizer kit but customized it more to what I wanted. Can’t wait to fill it up, but hate that I will be emptying out my old one… 034035036

Ok, probably no more pics until after the wedding unless I find time. Still crossing my fingers for good weather during picture taking time!

Let the countdown begin

5 day until the wedding. That means it is CRUNCH TIME! We need to get the house as “done” as we can and get it all cleaned up!

Friday night Craig tiled the laundry room floor. There to help were Notter and Biffar. We ended the night sitting by the firepit enjoying the cool fall air and a few Busch Lights!

Saturday we got the news we had been waiting for!! Our good friends Randy (best man) and Lisa had their second baby boy: Charlie! We wanted to go visit in the hospital but had too much going on to make it up there with Craig working and me working on wedding stuff. But they came home on Sunday and we got to meet the little guy!

Sunday was a huge cleaning day. My mom, Aunt Juli, cousin Mary, and friend Amy all came over and helped clean. Bathroom is completely done (and decorated!) and the living room is done as well (no decorating).

Here are a few pics:

Our clean living room! I brought the lamp up to make it feel more homey!026

The bathroom! Still needs a few things, like curtains and top closet doors, but we’ll get there eventually!

Shelving for the laundry items. Not sure if the shelves will stay in those positions, we’ll have to see once the washer gets hooked back up. My brother is supposed to be getting us new pipes for the washer, these ones are quite yellow and filthy. New whites ones would look a lot nicer!

I stayed at the house until 1 am Sunday night staining the middle room floor. Craig put the first coat of poly on tonight. He finished his homemade closet shelving and also put up my closet organizer! I can’t wait to use it, it’s huge!!035

Tomorrow morning (Tues) the countertop people are coming, as well as the vent cleaning crew. Then we can finish the rest of the cleaning and start moving stuff in!! It is all coming together. I can see the light at the end of this tunnel!

Cabinets are in!

Here are a few pictures after I repainted the kitchen (with the help of Miranda) “hint of gold” over the “lemon drops”.

And here are a few pictures of the finished tile. It looks so good!

The kitchen cabinets, trim, and crown molding were put back in on Sunday. We had to switch two of the cabinets around due to a little crookedness, but they look much better now. I have learned that you can’t expect everything to be straight, level, and plumb in a 120 year old house. There are a few gaps in the molding because we gained a few inches in several spots when we put up the new walls. It will get fixed sometime!

Today I repainted the laundry room, with the help of Miranda again. I knew that mint green color wouldn’t last too long. We ended up using the same paint as our bedroom. Once we have the trim work (it will be white) up and put the tile on the floor, I’m sure it will all come together. I also want to get new pipes that lead to the washing machine. Oh and I can’t forget the transom above the door! It may not be a functioning transom, but more of a window.

There is a crew coming on Tuesday morning to measure and template the new kitchen countertops, so hopefully within 3 weeks we’ll have them put in. I hope its not too hard living without a kitchen sink and counter for a few weeks! I will just have to hold out on my kitchen organizing and decorating for a little bit. Darn! After the countertops are in, we can put our backsplash up. I can’t wait to see it all come together. Next week is going to be pretty busy for me (it’s wedding week!!!) so I am not sure if I will be able to post anything. But it is kind of a stress reliever for me to get on here, so I may post once or twice, depending on how much stuff gets done. If not, there will be wedding pictures to post soon! :) I’m getting more and more nervous everyday, and I have constant butterflies in my belly! I just hope that forecast changes :(

Decisions, Decisions....

And regreting decisions and making new decisions... story of our house! Better now than when we are moved in, right?

Well, I have made Craig redo an entire archway (a whole night's work), rehang a wall of cabinets to make them look level, we painted our kitchen twice because we didn't like that color we picked after it was on the walls for a week, and now we are repainting the laundry room because we don't like the color we originally chose. We spent too many weekends and weeknights away from the house because "we have three months til we need to move in..." or "thats not something that needs to get done right away..." WRONG! We are now 10 days away from our wedding (move in day) and our house still needs quite a bit of work! We waited too long to put the kitchen cabinets back in and we finally agreed to just do a laminate countertop for the kitchen, which will probably not be ready for another 3-4 weeks! SOOO I have excepted the fact that no, our house will not be "done" by the time we move in. And I am ok with it! Or trying to be ok with it. I keep thinking how nice it would be to move into a "new" (120 years old new) house, all clean and ready for me to decorate! Well, it just isn't going to happen.

I have no pictures for the post today, but I will post some pics by the end of the week. The cabinets are in and look great, for being old cabinets. The kitchen tile looks awesome, and the new wall color "hint of gold" is waaaaayyy more appealing than the original "lemon drops" we picked. In 3-4 weeks we will have a countertop and a sink and a new faucet, so you'll have to wait for that post. Thursday I will be repainting the laundry room with the help of my sis Miranda. To avoid any additional costs, we are using leftover paint from the master bedroom. It is our favorite color in the whole house and we have 2 extra gallons- so why not? We are also using leftover tile from the kitchen floor and tiling the laundry room. This way, Craig won't waste a whole night scraping the old paint off the floor. We had planned to put epoxy paint down with the colored chips, but since we have the tile leftover we are going to put it to use. Also avoiding additional costs. The only thing we have to figure out is what we will do with the cellar door, it might just have to be a little bit lower than the rest of the room unless we put some kind of lightweight board down on top of it and paint it to match the tile. We'll see!

Our current to-do list is 19 items long. It would be AMAZING if that could all get done in one weekend. But that would be impossible. I am hoping for Thanksgiving! Just in time for decorating for Christmas. I like to decorate around Veteran's Day for Christmas, but Craig thinks I need to wait longer. We'll see about that!

Sigh of Relief…

The kitchen is no longer yellow. I can calm down now.

Tile

A few pictures of the kitchen floor tile. Craig is grouting right now, so tomorrow I will have pictures of the finished product. And tomorrow I am re-painting the kitchen, so I will have a few new pictures of the walls too. I really hope this new color looks better than the yellow!

Coming Soon…

Kitchen floor tile work in progress:

013

Butt shot!

014

About half of the kitchen is done. Craig will finish up tomorrow night, then we should be ready to grout Wednesday night. I would pray for a rain day so we could get done, but I know how much my dad and brother need it to be dry so they can finish cutting beans, so I won’t do that. :)017

Also, the next time I post a picture of the kitchen it won’t look like this:

Yuck. I decided that I can’t stand the yellow paint. I had big plans for it, but it is just too yellow. Craig agrees and said that he was only going along with it because he thought I liked it. What a sweetheart! Haha. Anyways, I am buying more paint tomorrow and we will be toning it down a bit. I hate that we have to re-do it, but every time I thought about the kitchen I cringed. And now is the time to change it, before the cabinets are put back in. So, let’s add one more thing to my super long never ending To-Do List!!

So in the next post, hopefully I will have pictures of a finished tiled, grouted, and sealed floor and pantry, along with new a paint job in the kitchen!
